This snippet was produced during Winterfat Presse’s first writing circle. It was a great time meeting with others and creating something from a list of questions. The circle, specifically, focused around matters of personhood and one’s capacity to be “me” and the willingness/determination to make it so. June Jordan’s writing was the collective’s main meditation source.
I chose to take on two prompts: what personal myths are you clinging to and describe how you can begin shedding these beliefs or what have you done to begin? I don’t really answer either of these questions, but instead outline things with a prelude.
“I” is split into 3 slow motioned movements not dissimilar from the saying “one foot in the past, other foot in the present, pissing on today”. This straddling leap is in the air, an awkward and joyful bound of sorts…
The matter of pissing is an essential requirement. Liquid refuse that must need releasing to maintain a properly functioning vessel. Scheduled maintenance. This piss is the byproduct of various consumed goodies: the parts of me that consume the parts of others. Sucking up sadness and griefs, joys, loves. In ways not often and way too often. Making my teeth ache, leading to my self hate and I love the taste of it. This [matter] processed, navigated into the stomach, reaped of its nutrients (lessons of “never again” and other declarations) then thoroughly separated into liquid and solid. This is where the piss comes from.
